So because Kait asked me to tell her what I thought of Marie Antoinette I thought I'd review some random things I have lately watched or listed to to you.
Marie Antoinette:
Well deserved Oscar for best costume design. I hope it didn't win any other oscars. This movie has no plot and very little in the way of snappy diologue. It's kind of like a big long artsy stream of consciouness music video. It's pretty though. So if you want to watch a fairly long boring but really pretty movie I highly recommend it. Turns out that Craig did not want to watch a fairly long boring but really pretty movie . He lasted an hour and a half though, so that's impressive.
The Departed: This one the oscar for best adapted screenplay. Don't ask me about any other oscars because I only saw those two. This movie has worse language than any movie I've ever seen. Don't watch it with your mother. Well...don't watch it with my mother anyway. Very well written and acted. The ending wasn't SHOCKING TWIST! but was original and not what I thought would happen. Also, Leonardo DiCaprio got a new haircut. About time.
Lily Allen: I am currently listening to her CD "Alright, Still". It's very cute kind of poppy jazzy with clever lyrics. Nice for a mellow but happy moment. Some language.
Oop, time for Heroes! see you later.

Slacker
Um, I posted up...5 book reviews on my book review blog. Because I keep forgetting! Also, I did not sleep much last night and I am sleeeeeeepy today. Also, I keep forgetting that you guys should check out my awesome handiwork on our church's webpage: Udac.ca. Anything that looks impressive and difficult? Totally not me. Anything that looks pretty? That's what I did.

Hair Day!

Huzzah, I have had a hair cut/dye fiiiinally! No 25 year old should have as much grey as I do, it's frightening! Well, better than premature wrinkles anyway. As I bought three new kinds of yummy yummy loose leaf tea. Monk's blend, which is a black tea with vanilla and something...and Angel Falls, a yummy fruity tea (the one I got you, Jen) and a Roibois chai for craig. Mmmmmmm tea.
Also, thanks for the arty ideas/suggestions. The idea of doing saints is a fun one that I will file away for when I'm feeling more ambitious and I think I will just do a little series and try and do Faith, Hope, and Love. I've got some ideas, and it won't be nearly as pastel and nice as you might expect.

Friday Five
Huzzah for the weekend! As always I feel that I barely made it. Also, I have added two new things to my sidebar which has magically made my layout wonky. Hooray!
Okay, here's my five fun things for this week:
1) I want a Munny so bad, they are blank and you paint them to make dolls, I want to make a Hanasu one!

2) Lace Ceramics

3) Find out the effects of your diet on the enviroment with the Eating Green Calculator.

4) Dual Purpose Bookcase

5)Jen Wang - Great illustrations:

Ideas please! Over here!
First I am going to whine. Just because I need to whine sometimes and my husband gets tired of it.
So yesterday I worked from 9-5:30 including 2 hours of lessons and the crazy busiest public swims in a while (holiday week! Where's my holiday week?). Then I had supper with Supervisor Girl and we drove to the other pool for inservice training from 7-10 and supervisor meeting from 10-11. Yaaaay for working all day long. At about 9:00 while we were doing deepwater spinals (which by the way I too short to do...I was sposed to be standing while lifting the spine board and I was more treading water while hanging on for dear life) I though "gee, my head hurts, but that's what I get for working for....ever". Then at about 9:40 while learning how to deal with a lumbar break my vision started blurring and an invisible person started stabbing me repeatedly through the eyeball. Hopefully no one has a lumbar this week because really? I don't remember any of it. Then my boss spent 45 minutes yelling and swearing at us about the 7 unifying principles of the organization and how we should not be having a bad attitude or we can quit. Good times that. Yeah that's when I realized "Hey.....this is a migrane!" Yeah it was awesome. I skipped the meeting and got a ride home. Then my migrane knocked me unconcious. And all day today my eyeball throbs and my head echoes and the children do not stop screaming. Because screaming is too much fun.
End of Whine.
Hey so I want to do a series of fantasy paintings. I want do something christian/religiousy. Something I can work some good symbolism into. I will not be painting angels or the seven deadly sins/heavenly virtues. Because angels are not pretty girls in cool clothes and the seven sins are soooooo done.
Any ideas? I want something with a clear list so that I can know when I'm done and have a goal. And something I can make....pretty. Ideas! Give them to meeeee!

Where the Map Ends Day 2
Or, more ramblings by Hanna. Okay, so here's my thought slash question of the day. What does it take to make a working community? See Jeff Gerke has created a resource in his web page (ahem: wherethemapends.com) for those who love christian fantasy, but it seems like (correct me if I'm wrong here) that what he's after, at the heart of it, is to create a bit of the community. So how do you do that? How do you find the people and get them to interconnect and get a community to work?
I mentioned in my last post how much I'd like to get to know more christian artists. Now I don't just sit here on my bum (okay well I am physically sitting on my bum, but that's not the point) hoping that people will somehow find me and be my friend. I actually spend time researching and hunting and looking for these people and for the most part? I cannot find them. Maybe they are avoiding me? I know I'm not the only christian artist who paints something other than just warmly lit flower covered cottages. But it's pretty hard to find people. We have no system. Maybe it's because christian art isn't like christian books or christian music. We have no blatent way of showing our faith through our art. You know, unless we paint angels and blble stories. But I believe that if you create something beautiful, that's showing the glory of God. Just, beauty. That's my message.
Yeah, that was a ramble. I'm tired and I have no idea where I was going with that. I am however, rather lonely and would like all the other christian artists to stop hiding from me. Particularly young ones with the same artistic and stylistics interests. That's sounds like a really creepy wanted ad, but you know what I mean.
Anyway, I am working on a book cover for my delightful mother, and this is the part that I finished this weekend. Hopefully I'll be done for real in a week or...well hopefully a week.

Where the Map Ends
So the Christian Science Fiction and Fantasy Blog Tour is not doing a book this month, but a webpage! So much less effort for me. Um, and I didn't have to wait for a book so, all in all, good times.
WhereTheMapEnds.com
This is Jeff Gerke's baby. His idea seems to be to make a resource for both fans and writers of christian speculative fiction (I hate that term by the way...seriously...ooooh I so want to go read some speculative fiction, it's my favourite!)
For the readers:
He has a very comprehensive list of books as well as some author interviews. Also in his special features section he has some short stories by christian authors.
For the writers:
For those who write he has some helpful (well they look helpful, it's not like I've tried them out) tools as well as some interesting articles about the industry.
For the artists/art lover:
He has a few links to some christian fantasy artists...okay so only two. And a link to a bity forum. I was honestly a bit disapointed, I'd love to get to know more christian artists but I can't find them! Where are you all hiding? I feel so alooooone!
Okay so overall I give it full points for enthusiasm and 3/4 points for content. For design.....well full points for effort. The colours work and there's obvisiously a feel to the site which is great. But some tweaking could definitaly improve the navigation and ease of reading. Also that sign up bar is too big. I wasn't going to say anything but seriously, it's driving me crazy because it breaks the frame. Okay I'll stop. Mr. Gerke, if you would like some impartial advice on how to take your site design from decent to excellent, I'll email you. And if you want some help on setting up a forum, I'm all over that too. Seriously, email me, I think you have a great vision here.
Um.....I'll try and think of more to post tomorrow.

Craig's B-day
So I forgot to post about my darling Craig's 25 birthday last Saturday. We woke up to beautiful thick hoar-frost which of course led Craig to say "Look I got whores for my birthday!" Precious.
Anyway, he had to work so I dropped him off and then went to do some last minute b-day shopping. I had already bought him a couple things but I wanted to get him the movie Princess Mononoke and I hadn't been able to find it yet. Anyway, here's some pics I took downtown. It was just magically pretty, I love it.

Also, I cooked mussels for the first time ever, as that was his birthday wish. They were sooooo good! Here's what I did:
I sauted two minced shallots and two cloves of garlic in butter until they looked yummy, then I added 1 cup of white wine and 2 pounds of fresh live mussels (we can get them at superstore here!) then I put the lid on and steamed them until they all opened. Just before serving I added about 1/2 a cup of fresh torn basil. We ate it with fresh parm breadsticks and asparagus with goat cheese. And naturally more wine :P. I also make a cake I made up with an oreo crust, a layer of dark chocolate mousse, and a layer of blueberry mousse. Sooooo good! I love food. Foody foody food.

2)The prettiest tea strainer ever by The Tea Table:

3) Todd Lockwood: pretty fanatasy art.

4)Cute plates shaped like word bubbles...not sure where this can be bought:

5)I found this very amusing lamp made by defyboarders on Etsy which is a wonderful site to buy and sell fun handmade items:

Valentineness
So yesterday was Valentines. I'm not the kind of girl who's all gushy and lovey and valentinessy but you know, I like a good holiday. Gives you something to do and breaks up the routine of....winter. So I bought yummy cupcakes at the bakery on the way to work...they had big dollops of icing on top and cheesy plastic hearts and stuff stuck in them. Good times. Then I decided to make all my co-workers valentines (all....3 of them!) featuring my amaaaazing poetic skills. I printed the poems off on pink paper, cut the paper into hearts and then taped them to a bigger heart of white paper which I them hole punched and scalloped to look like lace. They were the best made out of office supplies valentines ever, if I may say so myself. I know you are dying to hear my poems so I shall relate them to you:
Arrrr Matey
I love Katy
(because she's greaty)
I love Shauna
She makes me wanna
Hug a kitten
I am so smitten
and my personal favourite:
Lance Lance
Man of Romance
Likes to Dance
and sometimes Prance
But he is Goofy
Cause his hair is Poofy!
Then Lance went and wet down his hair.
Also one of my kids I teach who is sooooo cute gave me a valentine and a little bag of homemade cookies, they were tiny heartshaped sugar cookies sandwiched together with pink icing. I have a feeling that her mom had something to do with it...thanks Katrina!
When I got home I convinced Craig that we were going out for dinner. He agreed and then we watched Princess Mononoke while I worked on Mom's painting. Then halfway through he decided he was too tired! From playing World of Warcraft all day? I mean he did get to level 69, but still. But then after the movie I was very much suprised to find that he had gone downtown and bought me a present! Yay for presents! And it was jewelery! Yay for jewelery! It's a necklace I was eyeing when we got our new wedding bands. It's a chocker length thin silver wire that's twisted in kind of a loose coil with pearls strung every inch or so. It's sooooo pretty. And my first pearl necklace. And my first jewelery from Craig every (expect my engagement ring of course). So we had mozza sticks and fruit shakes for supper. And the mozza sticks leaked out everywhere so it was more like empty crusty shells swimming in a pool of mozza. But what can you do?
Hey, post a comment and I'll immortalize you in poetry in my next post!
Arrrr Matey
But what can you do?

annoying
Our radio station at work plays that new Gwen Steffani song 5 times a day. Not an exageration, Cashier Girl and I counted yesterday. I'm generally rather amused by Gwen's songs but this song is soooooooo annoying. So. Annoying. It's on right now. Make it stop! Yes I am at work, don't tell!
Sunday night I took a sleeping pill and then set my alarm. I was thinking of setting it for 7:45 but then thought that as I was teaching aquafit and therefore didn't need a shower, I could sleep in a bit. So I set it for quarter after. Monday morning I woke up, checked my computer stuff, got dressed had breaky and headed for work. I was halfway there when I stopped. As I stood there in the freezing blowing snow I realized that it was 7:45 in the morning. I set my alarm for 7:15 not 8:15 and I was an hour early for work! Who does that?! So I went to work anyway and slept in the first aid room for an hour. I didn't want to walk home and then walk back again, it was too nasty out. Good fun that.
The moral of today's story? Set your alarm before you take the sleeping pill!
I also very very excited in my own little nerdy way because the new Naruto series starts on Thursday. That would be anime for you non nerdy types. And it will be soooo wonderful and I have been waiting for months and months. Oh happiness.
Also, Grey's Anatomy last week...what was with that!?

Kids and Fairies
First the kids, I don't have any kids of my own, so I will bore you with stories of cute things other peoples children have said and done this week
William age 2 to the candy machine: I love this thing! (and then he proceeded to hug it.)
Emily age 3 is standing on the side of the pool with her bathing suit top bunched up around her armpits. Mom says "pull your bathing suit down honey!". (see where this is going?) Whoosh, off go the bottoms.
Alexa age 8, during swimming lessons: So how old are you?
Me: 25
Alexa: My teacher is 25.
Me: ah.
Alexa: So you don't have kids then.
Me: Some 25 year olds have kids.
Alexa: Well I think it's too young!
Um, here's another sneak peak at Perizada Designs lovely webpage layout:

52 Weeks of Books
So on my forum (The Sidhe Court) we're doing a thing called 52 Weeks of Books, where you try and read a book a week for a year and do a short review on each. I have 13 so far in 4 weeks, so I think I'm up to speed :p. Anyway, I wanted to share them with you but didn't want book reviews to completely take over my blog...so I made a new blog just for my book reviews: http://hannasbooksarecool.blogspot.com/.
Yes, that is all.
Oh and Tim Horton's breakfast sandwiches? Wonderful.
