Owliness

So this sat half finished for a couple months but I finally got it bordered and mounted last week. I printed my pygmy owl illustration off onto cotton, then stitched around it and stuffed it. Because it's cute that's why.

Will be on sale this summer when I get my etsy shop running :)

Prints!

I've uploaded some of my artwork as prints on deviantart. You can buy all the images as photo prints, canvas prints and mouse pads. Because it's seriously hard to find cute mouse pads. Photo prints start at just $5! There's no beating that.

The following art is available, let me know if there's another piece you'd like to see added, but remember that I can't add fanart. If I've done a commission for you and you'd like it added for a bit so that you can get a copy and then removed again I can do that as well.

Flickr Friday Five

So yesterday I picked Jen up at the airport (because her plane was finally able to land, the day before it had been turned back due to our snoooow) and we had great fun for about an hour until I had to work. On the way to the car I stumbled on the curb and rolled my ankle. And it hurt like craaaap. And today? Still sore, as well as slightly swollen. Probably shouldn't have taught that aquafit class...or stood on it for hours. But you know what? I only have a week of work left and I really can't afford any time off. That's right, this time next week I will be in Victoria on holidayness (hooray) and then over to Creston. Hopefully I will be done packing.

Anyway, my usual sources were not inspiring me today, so here's five pretty pictures from Flickr for you.

1)Pincushions by Hillary Lang

2)Pretty pretty softie blocks by knitstyle

3)Gorgeous pottery by Karin Erikkson

4)I would go live in lovely days' studio...only I don't know her so it might be awkward.

5)Fancy shoes no. 1 from The Small Object.

On my desk...

Okay so this is not my desk...because it's surrounded by boxes...thus I have been sewing on my couch while watching America's Next Top Model (by the way, this season's girls are not so nice...why can't they get along? Haha, but I like how the plus size girl bakes and makes yummy food that only she'll eat). So here's my sewing kit...it's almost like a desk...

Also, I recently did a layout for the Lister's. I love the colours, but then it's no surprise as I love everything with chocolate brown.

Oh oh, and my ipod? I thought it was dead but it suddenly started working again! Hoooooray!

Anyway, off to pack and such. Try to get my house in order before I pick Jen up at the airport this afternoon.

So how are all you lovely peoples? What projects are you working on?

Hooray for sunshine!

Because it's not to be taken for granted this spring! Yesterday had a whole lot of snow all morning long. Aaand I had to wake up at 5...only I set my alarm wrong so luckily I woke up at 5:30 (did I just say luckily and 5:30 in the same sentence? Frightening) which meant that the whole day was a right off. I simply cannot handle waking up early, it doesn't work for me. I was tired and loopy all day and spent an hour working on an illustration...and then pretty much scrapped it all. I will be happy to not have to wake up at 5 this summer.

Also, my house is no longer clean. It's tragic but unavoidable by this point :( Argh for packing. As well as Argh for trying to use up all the food in your fridge when you've already packed 1/3 of your kitchen...

I have a whole bunch of circles cut out to make bookmarks with, as craftiness seems to work better than drawing. Pretty much everything I've drawn this week has been crap, which reminds me that this happened last time I moved too...my muse doesn't much like upheavile I guess.

Um, enough rambling from me?

It's the coldest spring in 40 years!

Hooray for climate change! *shakes fist at the cars going by*

So here is the news:

- Craig has a job! Hoooray! He is a naturalist at the Creston Wildlife Centre starting May 5. As he is there any time he can manage when we are in Creston, he's pretty excited to get paid to hang out there all summer. Tragically the pay is not huge, but the excellent paid summer jobs in his field seem to require him to be away living in a tent for 4 months, and we just aren't down with that.

- Still packing...mostly to put in storage. I'm running out of boxes but I should be able to get more tomorrow. It's tricky in a town this size, you need to know when stores get shipments. I miss Chapters, they had the best boxes. Well I miss Chapters anyway :(

- If I don't get my job this summer (and they were sposed to call me on Wednesday, so I'm guessing I did not) then I will be going out to Victoria with my mom to visit Joel and Jen, which makes me very happy. I love Victoria, and last time I was there (too long ago :() they were working the whole time and we didn't get to hang out much. Not so this time so it should be tons of fun.

- I like listening to Antony and the Johnsons this week.

- I only have ten days left till I'm done work...so...8 days of actual work I think? That's craziness! If you know someone who needs some webpage work done this summer, send them over to me :)

Craig and I have been playing scrabble with each other over facebook throughout the day. It's very amusing. So far he's won.

- I found this very amusing photographer Yeondoo Jung who did a series where he took kids drawings and redid them as photos. They are delightful. You should definitely go over and see them all, but here's one of my favs:

Firday Five

On a Friday no less! Today we have had sun, rain, and windy dust clouds. It may snow over night. Any other weather coming for me? What's the weather like in your world?

Haha, I just got up to check on supper...and it started hailing.

1)Pretty Pretty file folders from Room Service Home:

2)Wood turned oval platters by Sprout Home:

3)LO VE Pillows by Lush Designs:

4)Paper Source seems like a cool store...and I could maybe spend too much money just online if I let myself...I love paper...even though I actually rarely use any.

5) Umm...and a pug in an Eames chair?

There was a lot of woodgrain this Friday...

Yaaargh

Packing. I hates it.

Craig had an interview to work at the wildlife centre in Creston. He says it went well. Apparently they started with how happy they would be to have a birder on their team. We are waiting to hear back. The upside is that it would be a great experience, the downside is that it pays less then we had hoped.

I have not heard back. I would like to veeeery much. In the meantime I pack, because I love it soooo much. I love staring at my books and trying to decide which ones I might want to read in the next 4 months. And staring at my clothes trying to decide what I will wear in the next 4 months. Oh I love it.

On the bright side (and it is a very bright side) My piece Princess Serenity got chosen as a daily deviation on deviantart yesterday. For those of you who do not know, this is really cool. Devianart is the biggest art community on the internet (not necessarily the best...but the biggest) and I usually get about...10-20 comments a day. I got over 1000 yesterday. This is my second DD and it did a lot to cheer me up.

yo

Sorry about the lack of postage. I've been generally rather stressy/sleepy/depressed/headachy/heartburny of late and honestly, I don't write this blog to whine so I just didn't write.

I have started packing. Well, I got boxes. That's a start. I've been avoiding it because packing means remembering that I don't know what's going on but really, there's about a 90% chance that we will be hanging at my parents farm this summer...I just don't know when we will get there or where (and in my case if) we will be working. I called the pool today and was told that they hadn't called me about the Program Coordinator position because they still weren't sure if they were going to hire seasonally or permanently (it's an outdoor pool but they're building an indoor one) but that if they did decide to hire me I would start the beginning of May. Yes the May coming up in a couple weeks. I requested that they let me know soon. And I've decided that if I don't get that job I will not lifeguard (because outdoor pools give me daily heat stroke) but instead take a leave of absence from my current job, thus keeping my seniority. And focus on my illustration/designness. Confused yet?

So I have a plan A and a plan B and I kinda like them both so I'm good. Now we just need Craig to get figured out.

I hate packing, by the way.

Oh and because I missed my Friday Five, here's something pretty for you all, I found a fun new fabric designer to drool over today, so go look. If you like fabric. Or design: Joel Dewberry

Serenity Softubs

Check out my latest design project, it's a website for a business that my cousin and her husband are opening to sell soft sided hot tubs. Different style than I usually do, so that's good to help round out the portfolio. Have a look here: Serenity Softubs and let me know what you think!

Hola!

Here's what's up:

- I bought new fabric to make a shirt. It's a nice t-shirty bluey green jewel toney fabric and is so pretty. I'm going to make the Lydia pattern at burdastyle. I printed and cut out the pattern on Saturday and bought the fabric today so hopefully I'll get it cut out tomorrow. As I have trouble following directions (my mother is laughing) I'm going to make it a 3/4 sleeve, square neckline and do kind of a sashy thing at the bottom. It'll be fantastic, just wait and see.

- It is still pretty cold but there are crocuses up everywhere which makes me really happy. The grass is getting green and the mountains are still covered in snow just a few meters up from us.

- We still don't know what we are doing this summer, all we know is that Craig is not going to be studying frogs on the Sunshine Coast. I would really like to know......

- We have decided (Craig actually) to switch completely over to Fair Trade cocoa products, hot chocolate, chocolate chips, everything. Because we say Yes to yummier chocolate and No to child slavery. Luckily I am completely addicted to Green and Blacks Mayan Gold chocolate bars so it's not a big hardship. And I've found where I can buy Cocoa Camino hot chocolate...not sure about cocoa...I'm guessing Nelson.

- We just finished the first season of Bones, which is my new favourite show. This month.

What's up with you guys out in blogland? Any sewing projects? Any fair trade cocoa tips?

Late Friday Fiveness

1) Sticklebook...it's an invisible hanging book system, so it looks like the books are just stuck to the wall :)

2)I really like these plushies by hasenpfeffer :)

3)One of many delightful illustrations by HidenSeek. The title is "He says he can hear the forest whisper...I can only hear his big heart.*"

*please note that Hanna's Life is Cool does not promote snuggling wild bears.

4)Plushie Scallions? Yes please :)

5)This is Reginald the Vegtimal, you can find him at the Little Critters show at the Uppercase Gallery in Calgary. I'd so be there if I still lived in Alberta, it looks really fun.

Faaanart

I've been working on this foreeeever. Okay not forever but a few months...sat on my hard drive for a while but I am putting in an effort to actually finish things before I start new things. Soooo...Tadah! Sailor Moon meets Alphonse Mucha. A natural combination I think. This is her Princess Serenity form...obviously.

On my desk....

Look, I finished my recipe binder! I bought a photo album, the kind with pockets, and put my recipe cards in it. I started typing some up, and I'll probably keep doing that ...sometime. The spine is a design I drew up in photoshop and then printed off onto cotton. Yeah I kinda didn't know what I was doing so it's less than perfect up close, but still really cute!

My giveaway (see post below) is still going on for 5.75 hours! Enter for the win!
