Every Day in May - Day 28

Finished my girly asian nonsense. This is Hanasu, who is I suppose my muse. I draw her when I am feeling like being self indulgent. You can see more of my art of her here.

She is dressed today in wa-lolita style which is a japanese street fashion, taking elements of traditional japanese fashion (which is the wa) and mixing it with super girly victorian doll like fashion (which is the lolita)

There's your random fashion knowledge for today.

Almost every day in May? - May 23 & 25

Alright May 22 I was working on a big painting of the olympic mascots for the parade float for the rec centre. No images. Yesterday I just wasn't home. I was at Church and then we spent the day in Nelson celebrating my Mom's birthday (we were back again today celebrating Barb's birthday...maybe that's enough gas usage for a bit...although I do love hanging out in Nelson).

Anyway, Mom said that she wanted something for her garden. So I painted her a garden friend...and some eggs...

And framed her a print of The Princess and the Pea, because it is her favourite. I included a little quote from the story to help it fit the frame nicer.

Then this morning at work I was feeling French. In a "let them eat cake!" kind of way. Apparently.

And I was doing so well! I'll try to have no more hiccups this month!

Every Day in May - Day 21

Because I said to Craig "I need more boy art. What do boys do that's fun?" And he said "forts?"

Green Day

A few days ago, but with all these art posts I haven't had time to post them up yet! Phew, this Every Day in May thing is a marathon of posting.

Blog Tour | Tuck by Stephen R. Lawhead

Alright peeps, I have a confession to make. I haven't read this book yet. The tour dates got muddled in my brain and poor Tuck got neglected. So I can't tell you how much I love the book yet. Although I know I will. How can I know? Because the first two books were excellent.

Seriously now. Lawhead + Robin Hood must = awesomeness. It's the only way. These are a great historical twist on the Robin Hood legend and a fun read. You should read them all. And I should get started on the third one.

You can read more here:

Do you dare?

To challenge my brute? If so click here.

This game is useless. And not even that interesting. But still I have been fighting for four days. And mostly losing lately.

But at least I'm cute.

Fight Hana Su!

Check out these amazing photos by Kim Kyung Soo for Vogue Korea. I want to live in her world please.

Mayhaps it's time to do some Korean inspired art...

Every Day in May - Day 14 & 15

You didn't get a post yesterday because we had a big fat power outage. Leading to a night of candlelit boggle playing. Is that not what everyone does when the lights go out?

Painted these at work yesterday and today:

While I was painting the second one this morning, a couple of boys, about 5 years old sat down on the other side of the window to watch me paint. I don't think they knew that I could hear them through the glass.

boy #1: Look, she's painting! It's a fish! And a flower!

boy #2 (with an "it's sad that you're so stupid air"): Is not a flower! This is the ocean, it is a starfish!

1: Oh. Look a turtle! And those things I think are tiny volcanoes!

2: They are not volcanoes! This is under the ocean! They are coral!

1: Oh. What's coral?

2: It shoots out little spikes and kills fish and eats them.

1: What do those do? (points at the anemones)

2: They explode and kill fish and eat them.

1: How do they explode?

2: With chemicals.

1: What is that? (points at another part of the window).

2: Hmm I don't know.

They ponder together for a moment.

2: It is seaweed. It doesn't kill fish.

1: Eep! The lady smiled at me!

Every Day in May - Day 13

So this is a sketch for a window painting I'm planning on doing tomorrow.

Every Day in May - Day 12

Here's from yesterday, I'm working on the hair and thought you might be interested in a screenshot. I always have my reference up, the image I'm working on zoomed in close and then another window zoomed out. Both working windows update together so it's kind of like being able to take a step back from the painting while still being up close to it. If that makes sense...

I miss my second monitor, it's a bit crowded in here.
