My new friend

I would like to introduce you to my new camera. He is a used Canon 20D (digital SLR) and I think we will be excellent friends, even though he needs a macro lense before I can get as close to things as I can with my point and shoot. I wonder what his name will be?

This means that sometimes we each have a camera...look, I exist! And without my arm holding the camera up :P

These were taken a couple days ago near our house.

Some Blogs I Love

Since I started using an RSS reader I find that I don't update my sidebar as much. Because of this I keep talking about blogs to Barb and she hasn't read them...because I don't have them in my sidebar. So now, for Barb and any others of you who want something pretty to read, here's some of my recent favourites (oh and still check out my sidebar, I love those blogs!)

100 Layer Cake.
It's a wedding planning blog. I'm not getting married obviously, but it's a fantasticly inspirational blog. Amazing theme boards, crafty idea, wonderful photography. It's just a daily dose of pretty.

The Bright Side Project
Daily giveaways of cool stuff. Happy indi-designed cool stuff.

Good-ness
This is one of what I call Creative Life blogs on my reader. Leslie Good lives in Japan (for a few more weeks) and amongst other things makes adorable quilts.

Lovely Design
Another Creative Life Blog. She makes pretty things. And has the cutest kid I've ever seen.

Mer Mag
Part Creative Life, part Design Blog. She is a cool artist with great taste. She gave her kid a Peter Pan birthday party. I want to be her when I grow up.

That's enough for today, happy reading!

Orange Blossoms

For Jen. These arrived at her house so I can show them to you now :). She is a very orange and brown type person. I made these with some kind of sheer orange fabric from the remnant bin and some brown stretchy lace.

Earth Day

It was Earth Day yesterday and we went to release some sturgeon. I'm not so secretly afraid of sturgeons (as they can grow to be 20 feet long and look like prehistoric monsters...because they are) but they are actually quite cute as babies, like most animals.

I hope you remembered Earth Day and took some time to think about how you live your life. Our planet is on the verge of collapse with our current way of life. I know a lot of people don't like to think about it, it's overwhelming and it's depressing and we hope someone else will fix it.

Here's something to think about. You are everyone else's "someone else". You have the same responsibility as the other 6 billion of us, and it's going to take all of us trying to change to make a difference. And no, you can't make 6 billion people change how they think. But you can change. And that's a start.

So think a bit about your lifestyle, think about what could be improved. Strive to live simply and lightly on this planet. Don't just drift along through life, make an effort to do what you know to be right. Your children and grandchildren will thank you, and your life will be richer for it.

The Princess and the Pea

Even princesses get bed head.

I've always had a soft spot (no pun intended) for the Princess and the Pea. Maybe it's because I often have trouble sleeping at night...

Doodles

It was a very boring day at work just before Easter...very boring. Two people in the pool and everything is already clean boring. So while I was in the guard room I was doodling (don't tell my boss, kay!)

First I was in an Easter Mood:

Then I though, hey, why don't I ever draw fairies? Oh right, because I draw boring fairies...I need to get that figured out:

Then Gabe came in and visited me, he's one of the high school boys who helps coach the swim club. He asked to be mentioned on my blog so that he could be famous. Anyway he wanted to know why I was drawing a fairy and I said that it seemed like something girls should draw. He thought about that and asked me to draw giant monsters coming out of the ground in the parking lot and eating cars.

So I did:

Music

This is what I love right now:

Invaders Must Die by The Prodigy
One of my favourite techno bands in high school. This is a great new album, just as good as their old stuff. My favourite songs? If I have to choose I pick Omen, Invaders Must Die and Colours

Fantasies by Metric
Candian Indy Rockish band. Love love love this album. Favourite Songs? Gold Guns Girls, Help I'm Alive and Gimme Sympathy

To Lose my Life by White Lies
Melencholy Retro Brit Rock. It's Good times. Craig and I like to go around singing it at each other ("Let's grow old together, and die at the same time!")

Favourite Songs? To Lose my Life, Unfinished Business, Nothing to Give.

And for funzies (via Loobylu), here's a couple of cute folky swedish sisters: First Aid Kit singing Tiger Mountain Peasant Song:

What are you listening to these days?

In My Mom's Little World

Hooray, my Mom's blog and website have merged into one thing of beauty after many hours of pretending I know CSS (thanks Karl!). I think I kinda do know CSS now...fake it till you make it I say.

That would be geek talk. Here is real talk, check out the pretty site I made my mom over here: ValerieComer.com.

Pretty Poppies

I made myself a headband yesterday. It's two raw silk flowers with freshwater pearls for centres. They're attatched to a length of stretchy black lace. I like it.

Joel Dewberry Quilt

I just finished Craig's birthday quilt last night (and yes his birthday was two months ago...details). It's fabric from the Aviary collection by Joel Dewberry matched with some cotton solids.

The backing is flannelette for maximum snuggliness.

It's the lotus brick pattern by Amy Butler but I did it as a quilt as you go, in the long strips so that I could do it all on my home machine.

The binding is not completely perfect but for my first full sized (and all by myself) quilt I am very happy. Happily so is Craig. It is perfect for hanging out on the couch.
