Fine Feathers
When I did that website for Jen (my sister in law) a few weeks ago she sent me a present instead of payment. It was a beautiful headband by Preen Yourself. And I love it. I'm wearing it today so I thought I'd share. I want more pretty hair things now!

My Future Clock
So I've decided that we need a clock. We don't have one anywhere, just the computers and microwave...alarm clocks. There is no way to know what time it is when we are just sitting around in the living room. Yes, yes I could get a watch (as Craig keeps reminding me). But as a lifeguard I just can't get in the habit anymore. So I've been on the hunt for the perfect clock. I could make one...but seriously, there are other people who make nicer ones and I really don't need to make eeeeeverything.
Which leads me to this, my perfect clock:

It's by Decoy Lab and is also available at Fey Handmade (which is an adorable new online shop). I love it. It's so adorably folksy and cheerful. It can live up with all my prints on the wall, be lovely and tell time. Love love love. Happily Craig also loves. Must go check bank account.
Some other cute clocks by Decoy Lab, that don't want to live in my house...but maybe want to live in yours:

Where the Wild Things Are
Did you know that they're making a movie of Where the Wild Things Are? The preview is delightful, and I'm officially curious.

Greetings

Hooray I did some art! This is my new ID picture for my Deviantart page
This is me, in my favourite outfit...grocery shopping. Rocking the grey streak (people ask me if I dye it. No, that's just my hair). Hanging out with Chickadees...although my birder husband says they look more like titmouses...whatever.

Speaking of Underwater...
I've been learning to Kayak at the pool this week. When I was in Explore we did a few days of whitewater kayaking and it was good fun. Never quite figured out how to do the roll though. There's a kayaking group that has lessons at the pool and I've been watching them for a while, then this Sunday they did an inservice for us, and yesterday I wasn't working during the lesson for once, so I went and played!
It's hard work, not muscles I usually use, I have quite a few bruises on my legs and permenant water in my ears, but I feel great! Fun to be doing something so physically challenging.
I can't even smell chlorine usually. I spend so much time at the pool that when I walk in it smells...like nothing. I always smell like it too, if I am away from the pool for a couple days and then go for a run...I sweat chlorine.
I have got so much water up my nose that I can still smell it. Makes me almost nostalgic...
So, it's not for everyone. And I still can't roll...but I'm really really close!
Next week.
Oh and I reformatted my computer to get rid of viruses, now I'm reloading everything on. Good times.

Sharing
So yesterday I got home from work at about 10:30pm, exhausted. A bit later Craig and I were curled up on the couch eating popcorn and watching TV when he mentioned that the freezer had been tipped funny when he left that morning. We have a small square deep freeze and it lives out on the patio due to our tiny basement suite. I was brain dead and I believe my reply was "huh..."
About 11:30 we heard a noise and turned on the patio light to see a big fat black bear tipping the freezer over. He pulled out a package of ground beef and might have gone for more but decided to cut his loses and take off when he saw us. He also took a ziplock of frozen basil but apparently didn't feel like herbs as he left it half eaten on the ground.
So we picked everything back up and took the freezer inside (it's now an end table...very classy). Yeah I have to go through and wash the bear slobber (by the way, ew!) off my packages but all the lamb and the free range chickens are still there which is happy as those are harder to come by. Still, I don't like sharing.
He came back at 3 in the morning to root through my recycling (no food, just clean containers, very disappointing) and I opened the door and yelled at him before he took off. So I guess I need to deal with the recycling today.
This is so not cool by the way, as he wasn't nearly as wary of me as I would like. Going to be keeping an eye in the bushes when I get home after dark from now on...
Is there any animal that doesn't wander through my yard? Oh right, cougars...best not tempt fate.

Money Can't Buy You Happiness
Happiness is:
A house smelling of fresh baked bread
Having a friend over for girl talk and walk
Laying in a puddle of sunshine with my eyes closed listening to my new favourite band
Painting when it just flows
Today is a good day.

Oh weddings...
A friend of mine is getting married this fall (in Malta...so unfortunately without me!) and I'm working on invitations for her. I also offered to find her some Etsy dresses (because everyone should have handmade dresses, right?) so I've been poking around Etsy tonight.
I loved my wedding with an undying love (or was that Craig...) but if I were to do it over?
I would wear this:

With this in my hair:

These guys would hang out on our cake:

I also find myself strangely drawn to these pom poms...probably to hang in trees (my imaginary wedding is obviously summer and in a park...)

Alright, who wants to let me plan their wedding?

Chicken
It is snowing madly outside like a mad snowing thing. It is, in fact, a winter wonderland. Which by the way March has been so far means that tomorrow should be nice, which is....nice because I'm wandering over Nelson way. Seriously though, why did I let Craig take the car? Also, I am sick.
Remember last week when I posted. Good times. So in my last post I told you that we went to Ainsworth Hot Springs. Here is a story for you:
There is this guy who comes to the pool. I think his name is Bill. He's probably about 70, or maybe under. He's Russian (as is half of the town) and he picks mushrooms. Not the kind popular amongst teenagers, he picks pine mushrooms, when you can get a nice chunk of change for. He has a pine mushroom tattooed on his arm so that even when he has a bad mushroom picking day, he still always has one. We are good friends and like to discuss the wildlife in our backyards, the snowpack, ect.
When he found out I was going to Ainsworth he started telling me how I haaaad to go into the cold pool. The cold pool? Well it is very cold. 4 degrees celcius. I haven't gone in there since I was a stupid kid. But he went on and on raving about it. How great it is for you health, how once you jump into the hot water again your whole body feels so alive. There are no words for this feeling, he tells me.
So we go to Ainsworth. And I don't go in the cold pool (because dude, it's 4 degrees!). And of course Bill asks me the next day how I liked it. And I cannot lie.
And now everytime I walk past him he hisses "Chicken!" at me.
Every. Time.
I should have just gone in the pool.

Allo?
I have not actually updated with my life and all lately. So here's what's up with me.
- My back is slowly getting better, but still bugs me. Apparently I had a muscle spasm that pinched a couple nerves. While I was quilting. Because that's so hardcore.
- I am still working a LOT and cooking a lot...so not cleaning much. It's under control somewhat though, I no longer have that drowning feeling. I'm doing some design work, but I really need to do some art.
- Sunday was mine and Craig's 6th anniversary! We went to Nelson for brunch and a wander and then over to Ainsworth Hot Springs for a relaxing afternoon and very yummy dinner.
What I love right now?
Favourite Drink: London Fog's from Bagels and Brew. It's pretty much a steamed milk/earl grey drink for those who don't know. And our local coffee shop makes the best ever.
Favourite Music: The new Prodigy CD Invaders Must Die. So great, just as good as their old stuff.
Favourite TV: I'm addicted to Fringe, Bones and The Mentalist. Apparently I love mystery and murder these days. Also we just started watching Dollhouse on Kait's recommendation and are eagerly awaiting more episodes.
Favourite Books: I've been reading some Jane Austin...also the new Kelley Armstrong mystery Made to be Broken which I loved. In non-fiction I finished Waking the Dead by John Eldridge and it was fantastic, just what I needed. Apparently my reading is pretty well rounded these days!
That's all for now, what are you guys loving this week?

Thrifting
I've been wandering around thrift stores lately for amusement, here's my favourite finds :)
This is a great copy of Pinocchio with the original text (translated of course) and illustrated by Greg Hildebrandt. It was published in 1986 and other than a small crack in the binding it's in great shape. The illustration are just so lush and vibrant, I love it. And it cost me a dollar. Score!

And next, I wanted a decorative tin to keep crackers in. I went back and forth between thrifting and buying a pretty new one but in the end thrifting is a) more fun b) cheaper and c) more eco-friendly. So I found this baby for 99 cents. I rather love it. It has a photo of Lake Louise on the top and the sides are circled with little illustrations for each province of Canada. Delightful. Anyone know anything about McGavin's Princess Fruit Cake? I'm curious when it would have been sold orginally.

I'm going to try and find a couple more tins. But that is it. I am not a tin collector. Do not give me tins. I repeat, no buying boxes of tins for Hanna at garage sales!
These last ones aren't actually vintage, they're reproduction posters from the 30's made into 6x8 greeting cards and were on sale for $2 each. I'm going to frame them up and add them to my art collage wall. The sales lady seemed pretty unimpressed with me for not planning on mailing them to anyone.

Treasure hunting is such fun!
