Late Friday Fiveness

1) Sticklebook...it's an invisible hanging book system, so it looks like the books are just stuck to the wall :)

2)I really like these plushies by hasenpfeffer :)

3)One of many delightful illustrations by HidenSeek. The title is "He says he can hear the forest whisper...I can only hear his big heart.*"

*please note that Hanna's Life is Cool does not promote snuggling wild bears.

4)Plushie Scallions? Yes please :)

5)This is Reginald the Vegtimal, you can find him at the Little Critters show at the Uppercase Gallery in Calgary. I'd so be there if I still lived in Alberta, it looks really fun.

Faaanart

I've been working on this foreeeever. Okay not forever but a few months...sat on my hard drive for a while but I am putting in an effort to actually finish things before I start new things. Soooo...Tadah! Sailor Moon meets Alphonse Mucha. A natural combination I think. This is her Princess Serenity form...obviously.

On my desk....

Look, I finished my recipe binder! I bought a photo album, the kind with pockets, and put my recipe cards in it. I started typing some up, and I'll probably keep doing that ...sometime. The spine is a design I drew up in photoshop and then printed off onto cotton. Yeah I kinda didn't know what I was doing so it's less than perfect up close, but still really cute!

My giveaway (see post below) is still going on for 5.75 hours! Enter for the win!

April Giveaway!

So I'm working on some projects for my Etsy shop and I thought it would be fun to do a little monthly giveaway. This month I've got a collection of magnets with my art on them and a handmade bookmark done with some ribbon, felt and quilting scraps.

Here's what you need to do to enter, just post in the comments before 11:59pm pacific time Wednesday Night (April 2) telling me what your favourite colour or combination of colours are at the moment.

This is open to anyone, no matter what country you live in and my comments are set so that anyone can post, just make sure you leave your name if you aren't signed in!

Commissionness

Okay it's a lie, you're not invited to Sam's Stagette. Well Jen is. I'm very happy with this one as it only took me four hours tonight and I was feeling super crappy all day. Sick and drained and stressy. And then I locked myself out of the house for 3 hours. All in a days work.

Friday Five!

So we've been told that our townhouse has been sold and we're out in two months. Which is a bit of a pain but at least the school year will be done, and we might not even be in town for the summer anyway. Don't know yet. Would sure like to know!

1)Crocheted Jellyfish anyone? Yes please! (by jpolka)

2)Want to spend $14,500 on a bathtub with built in aquarium? Wouldn't the fishies get warm?

3)I want one of these! The Kitchen Sync is still a prototype but the idea is that it's a digital cookbook. You can download (and scan from your cookbooks) recipes and then use it as a cookbook in the kitchen. It's wireless and very wipeable and everything :)

4)Adorable letterpress stationary by Elum

5)Look at this cute Amelie inspired photo by inkyblack!

Weddingness

Here's three of my favourite shots from the 500 or so I took at my cousin's wedding last weekend:

On my desk...

On a Wednesday...

As I'm all finished the dress I was sewing (see post below) the kitchen table is presently a kitchen table and not a workspace :P So here's a pic from my computer desk, which is where I'm working today. This is Shashi, he's a red panda. Red panda's are my favourite animal (I know I know, I'm a five year old with a favourite animal) and I bought him at the Calgary Zoo last year. He keeps me company while I work.

If you want to be a stalker and check out some other people's desks (you know you do!) you can head over to Kootoyoo's blog and check it out :)

In other news:
-It is snowing
-I am still sick
-My best friend at work has been led to believe that I don't respect him and talk about him behind his back
-I am running out of food (not money, just need to go shopping)

On the plus side:
-I have lots of hours next month
-I have three days off to get better and get caught up on some freelance work
-My house is pretty clean

I think I will bake something today, it seems like a baking day.

Wedding Dress

Well it's a dress...and I wore it to a wedding?

The wedding went pretty well...it was the shortest ceremony I've ever seen...ten minutes tops. Thankfully it was the one sunny day this weekend so I did get to shoot outdoors, I can't imagine what I would have done otherwise, the lighting in the hall was tres tres terrible. I'm processing them today, so I'll show you some when I get them done.

In other news, I am sick. I traded in my weeklong headache for a cold. Started work at 6 this morning...managed to call someone in by 9. It's not even funny how loopy I am :P

Geocaching

So I'm visiting my parents this weekend and my Dad recently got a GPS and is into geocaching so we went treasure hunting after lunch.

What you do is look on the website for coordinates and then find them with your GPS. Then you find a container with a log of everyone who has found it, and some treasures.

The idea is to take something out and leave something new, but you can just leave something new. We left one of my Moo cards.

And then continued on our walk. It is a rainy snowy day but pretty. I'm enjoying my hot chocolate now though.

Good Friday Five

Well I'm on my way home for Easter...so here's 5 Easter Etsy finds.

1) Little felted bunny by chetanddot

2) Marlow the little peanut by bitofwhimsyprims.

3)Woolsworth by kaelagraham.

4)Red Lilies Pillow by PacoandLupe.

On My Desk...

So I'm aaalmost finished my dress for the wedding this weekend, just need to hem the overdress. And I'm also working on turning a photo album into a cook book with a cute cover that holds recipe cards. One for a wedding present and one for me...naturally.

Also I've just learned that I'm the wedding photographer. Did I mention that this wedding is on Saturday? Errrrrrr. Hooray for being spontaneous?

Abigail

So this is a flash dress up doll that I was working on over the summmer. I was going to sell it to a site, but it turned out to be a whole lot more work than I bargained for and more than I was willing to put in for the money (especially when they said it was great...so could I do even more clothes?) so I let it sit on my hard drive forever. But yesterday I finally finished her off so that you guys could play with her.

Also I have had a headache for 5 days. Aaaargh.

Illustration Friday: Heavy

Yes I know it's not actually Friday. Illustration Friday is this weekly art theme thing that I've been meaning to start doing for about...a year. So today is the day. This weeks theme is Heavy which naturally leads to nerdy little girls and obese kittens. Or is that just me?

Goodbye Art Block!

Simon's Cat

These are a couple of cute little animations

Friday Five!

Hmm, so I got paid today...and while the paycheck was pretty, I'm relatively sure that I didn't work over 150 hours last pay period...so the pretty money will have to exit my bank account again :P

1)The Paul Smith Ping Pong Table (via apartment therapy) mmmm....maybe Craig could talk me into ping pong after all.

2)Sea Urchin Bud Vases....looooove (via HWTM)

3)I'm pretty sure you could only have good dreams in this reupholstered antique bed by Chaircouture (via poppytalk)

On my desk Wednesday?

Man I've been a day behind all week. Yesterday was another early morning (I haaaates it *hisses*) and I was just out of it. Plus Craig was home and I was helping him get his presentation ready for school. Craig is not a public speaker so it's a big deal for him (it's a 25 min presentation, so not small either). In fact...I think he's doing it right now...go Craig!

In other news....my dress is looking more and more like a dress. Now I just hope that it looks good on me...

Also I get to teach Bronze Medallion and Bronze Cross next week (pre lifeguarding courses for 13+ age group) which is exciting for two reasons. A)I love teaching those courses and I haven't been able to for 5 years now. B) Monies! Hooray for 40 hours at a nice high wage...plus 8 hours prep time. Which reminds me...I should be prepping.

Oh oh, but one more thing. If you are in the Castlegar Area you should sign up for my drawing classes. I somehow got talked into creating an eight week drawing course on Monday nights. Erm, so hopefully that goes well.

But I'll leave you with a view of...well it's actually behind my desk, this is my inspiration wall.

zzzzzzzzzzz

daylight savings + early morning shift = sleeeeeeeeeeeeepy

Hrm, not much going on these days. Busy with webpages. Trying to draw but not finishing anything. Mom and Dad came up yesterday afternoon which was nice. Mmmmm, wanna see what I'm working on?

Friday Five

Just pretend it's still Friday, okay? And apologies for the lack of art lately. I've been in a slump lately. I open files...I poke at them...I close them again. Maybe next week.

1)Index Chopping Boards at MoMA. The idea is that you have different boards for different things...to prevent cross contamination. I would just like them because they're cute.

2)Adorable party invitations by Sarah Jane Studios. I love her classic illustration style.

3)Fabric brooches by jenmenkhaus. I don't want one. I want a heap like in the photo. I don't know why.

4)Prismera Design has preeeeetty jewelry. This is the Hopewell Necklace.

5)Keyboard organizer. Um...maybe handy?

Rock Garden

So when we were packing my gramma's apartment up a few months ago (she's still with us, but can't live on her own anymore) I grabbed this little dessert tray. Not sure why, it just appealed to me. Then I stuck it in a box. Then I started purging and found the box again and put it out on the counter to stare at. I was staring at it while doing dishes with Craig the other night, and he said, quite reasonably "Why don't you put a rock garden in it?"

And I thought...why don't I?

So it's a combination of reindeer moss, rocks from my...er rock collection (I mean I purge and all...but you can just get rid of rocks....right?) and some little things that used to live in a zen garden. It makes a cute little two tiered miniture landscape living on my end table.

On my Desk Wednesday

So I'm joining kootoyoo's weekly On My Desk photo meme. Here's my workspace (in this case the kitchen table as my actual desk is very full of computerness). You can see that I am still very slowly sewing my first ever dress. It is, by the way, the Azalea pattern that you can download for free from Burda Style. Also I got my letterpress print from Ink and Wit today. Hoooray. Oooh, look, they match!

In other news...

- It is so nice out today. Makes me happy, I'll have to go for a walk later.
- I made peanut butter chocolate chip cookies yesterday...so I'll have to go for a walk later.
- My tooth is finally mostly better after two days of pain. Apparently one of my wisdom teeth is tired of being dormant. Which is unfortunate as I have no dental at the moment (go back to sleep little tooth!)
- Did I mention that it is Spriiiiiiiing!?

Five years of marriage and domestic goddessness

So it was our anniversary this weekend (March 1st). Five years. We've had some rough spots, but I know that these five years are just the beginning of our fun life together :). Anyway, Mom and Dad (whom I loooove) gave us an overnight with meals at the very fun Ainsworth Hot Springs. For those of you who have not been lucky enough to spend time in my neck of the...er woods, the main fun thing about Ainsworth, apart from the natural hot springs, mountains, lakes and so on, is that the the hottest pool has a natural horseshoe shaped cave. Very amusing.

On our way home we spent some time in Nelson enjoying the sunny weather. We bought some organic sheeps cheese from the Kootenay Co-op and a very yummy baguette from the French Bakery. That with a bottle of wine and some butternut squash soup was dinner. We also watched "I Am Legend" because apparently I need to watch a scary(ish) movie every now and then to remember that I don't think being scared is fun. Strangely. Oh and while in Nelson Craig bought me a really beautiful necklace made by Nicole Bigg. I have been lusting over them at the Craft Connection for the past 6 months so I'm kinda in love with it.

What else...Sunday was warm...I wore capris to church. I stayed for a meeting of the church's "fix the ugly webpage" meeting. As seems to be my destiny. They are all techy guys who are happy to just let me make it pretty. And that's all I want anyway so it works out.

Karl and Tom...I miss you guys!

This morning I woke up to the sound of the snow plow. I was not exactly excited...but I was also not surprised...I knew it was too early to settle into Spring. March is a messy month. And that's just how it is.

Oh and yesterday I got out Animal, Vegetable, Miracle out from the library after hearing many good things about it...and I have to say I love this book. I'm halfway through...I don't usually read nonfiction so quickly. It's about a family who decides (with a couple small exceptions...such as grain) to eat only what they and their community can produce. It's partly information about the food industry (which is scary) but also lots about their life, and I have to say that their kid is hilarious. I'm so inspired...I want to garden. I know. Me. I do have to point out that I have three houseplants that are currently alive in my house...and also, I'm sure I'm not the first person to kill a cactus, okay!

Mom and Dad...we will be making cheese, I thought you might want to be in on the action. I'm pretty stocked and will be looking for a place to buy the cultures tomorrow. If I can make bread and pasta from scratch, I'm willing to attempt cheese.

Sewing my own clothing? Making cheese? House...still clean?

It's crazy I tell you. Crazy.
