Work is making me so crazy this week. Parents are so ignorant. Here's some advice/info for you so that you will not be an ignorant parent.
-A kid can go unconcious in ten seconds. From hitting the water to being pulled out, ten seconds. Don't let them out of your sight!
-Lifejackets are the devil. If you put a lifejacket on a small kid and they trip and wind up on their front, they will be unable to flip on their backs...and will just float on their fronts with their faces in the water...they're so off balance that half the time they can't stand up, even in waist deep water.
-Kids can bite holes in waterwings.
-Not all lifeguards are good! Remember my story about Girl who can't squeegie. Now if I'm guarding, you can trust me with the life of your child....but you don't know if that lifeguard is a hung-over sixteen year old who's staring into space while trying to decide if that guy likes her or not.
-Kids really can drown in a teaspoon of water. Truly. So a kid who can barely walk is probably not safe in chest deep water.
The moral of the story? Watch your children! Don't let them run around on their own, don't let their six year old brother watch them! Don't assume the lifeguard is watching them! Watch them! Do you want them to die? They will not be fine!

Yay for money!

So this was a commission (for real money, not fake forum money as is usual!)
It's the character Debra from the webcomic [Shift]. I'm pretty happy with it, she is shexy!
I am on my way to work...an hour early to work out, yay me! Plus I'm teaching aquafit today so that's double the good....if I can stay awake...
I'm actually kinda excited to go to work today as it's the beginning of things getting back to normal. Two of the people I usually work with and love are going to be back (and only 4 of us usually work, so losing 2 was a lot) and there's no swimming lessons, so it should be decently quiet. Well...the kids are still out of school for one more week but you know.

See look, I was there
Here's some photos I stole from mom of last weekend.

So mostly I just took photos...

And I made friends with a froggy!

Um, here's proof that I have a husband...it looks like we're cuddling but really he was pushing me back and forth so I couldn't get the camera to focus....brat

And a pretty rock I found.
Good times.
Some randomness:
-the tea I've been drinking is Green Tea Super by Yogi. I really like it, Craig thinks it tastes like dishsoap. meh.
-How do I make the photo collages? I open a photoshop document of the right size with a white background. Then I picked the photos and resized and cropped them to the shape I wanted. Often I use the curves ->auto feature to make them look a little better. Then I merged all the photos into one layer (still seperate from the white layer) and made the edges match up by deleting chunks with the rectangle select tool. Then to make the next collage I would arrange the photos to my liking and make them into one layer..so I have three layers: 1)white layer 2)previous photos 3)new photos. I would take the magic wand tool and select the blank space around the photos on the 2nd layer, and then got to the third layer and hit delete. Presto, new collage, delete layer 3 and save. You get all of that?
-I thought your vision went funny with migranes...is that not always the case? I've only had headaches like the one of wednesday 3 times in my life, once when we first moved here and once when I was a kid. I don't likey.
-We went out for dinner and some shopping last night...had sushi and green tea cheese cake...and tempura bannanas and ice cream. Ah, so good! Come visit me and I'll take you to the Lighthouse, it's fantastic.
-I got the Tegan and Sarah DVD...which I am presently watching. And A Brother's Price by Wen Spencer, and the newest Lori Handeland book... The purpose was to buy new wedding bands, as we've both lost ours...but we were overwhelmed by the choices and didn't decide on anything.
-Would it be wrong to get matching Ipods instead?

Some photos and a Headache
Here are some photos of my camping trip with the parents (and the husband, naturally). I have thoughtfully arranged them into groupings so there's less downloading, and cause it's prettier. If you're thinking "that's not enough, I must see all 74 photos that Hanna has uploaded!" (as opposed to the couple hundred I took...I get a little crazy with the digital camera) then go to my Flickr Page and click on the Elk Lakes album. It's fun, I promise.

Anyway, Um, I'll post some pictures of me when mom sends them to me. Otherwise there's no proof I was actually there...
Had an excellent time, great weather, beautiful scenery (as you can see!). A little achey from the hikes. Craig of course is not achey as he's in shape. Jerk.
So last night I got a headache. Woke up three times during the night and each time is was worse (but I still slept, huzzah!). Woke up this morning and felt like someone was stabbing me throught the eyeball. Craig drove me to work. Almost threw up 3 times just getting the one block from where he dropped me off to the pool. Took twice the recommended dosage of drugs at work and went to lie down for 15 minutes (I purposefully went early, cause I had no drugs at home). Took an hour for them to kick in, by which point I had got someone to cover my shift. As I was walking home I ran into a friend's Dad who gave me a ride home. And now I'm home...and I almost feel guilty because I'm not in that much pain anymore, although my stomach feels nasty from taking 4 asprin on an empty stomach. And I can't really focus my vision all that well, rumour has it that's bad for a lifeguard. Ah well, I'm going to nap and try and read my bookclub book and hopefully all will be better by tomorrow...I would like to get paid for at least some work this week...argh, thinking about the headache is making it come back...

Heartburn
*cuts out digestive system*
Thaaaats better.
So this week was....alright. Not so terribly warm, so that was nice. I did work out everyday but I didn't eat properly...I can only seem to do one at a time. I miss Cashier Girl, she's on holidays for two weeks. And Supervisor Girl is gone...it's sad.
Found out a window painting client I had at christmas got someone else to do their window for Whoop-up days. Probably found someone to charge less. I kind of care, because it's a bit of a burn, but at the same time I'm much to busy to do more windows than just the salon. And I don't feel bad about charging what I do, my time is precious to me and I don't have a lot of it (ahahaha, says the one who lives on the internet...evenings don't count!) So anyway...meh. It was Tim Hortons by the way.
So the latest trend at the pool (we have our own trends...it's a very social job, we have cliques and everything...although the fashion is very boring) is throwing two green tea bags in your nalgene and just drinking it cold...no sugar. Now New Supervisor Girl (who I shall from now on simply refer to as Supervisor Girl) found some green tea that is actually quite yummy even without sweetener...has jasmine and such in it. I decided to jump on the antioxidant band wagon and give it a go, however, my Nalgene is dark red and I can't tell if the tea is steeped or not. So I went to sportcheck to buy a new one. I only saw coloured ones.
Me: Do you have a clear nalgenes?
Sportcheck girl: No, they don't make clear ones.
Me: Yes they do.
SCG: (as though I am stupid): No...they make those kind of light grey ones, we have those.
Me: They actually make clear ones.
SCG: Well....*sigh* I've never seen one, but I guess you learn something new everyday?
I'm not buying anything from her.
Aaaaand, going camping tomorrow with the parents. Hoooray! Probably going to be my only camping trip all summer. I made trail mix, it includes:
-Honey Nut Chex
-Salted Cashews
-Honey Roasted Peanuts
-Craisens
-Gummy Bears
-Reeses Pieces
-Chocolate Covered Raisins
-Chocolate Covered Espresso Beans.
I blame my parents. Camping was the only time we got junk food. I don't know how to make healthy camping food.
Thaaaats better.

Red Lanterns

My favourite thing I've ever drawn!
"But Hanna," says my mother, "everything you draw is your favourite!"
Not true! the other things I've drawn this week are not my favourite, so I'm not posting them. Ha!
That's really all I have to say, unless prompted otherwise I just stay in my house and draw all day. No adventures.
Here, I'll also show you my favourite pixel doll I've ever done. Just cause I love you.

Incompitence
So last week I worked with this girl. Brand shiney new little 16 year old lifeguard. Still wet behind the ears and all that (what does that saying mean anyways?). So she's very cute and nice and all that. Wandered off deck a couple times but otherwise...(wandering off deck is the biggest no no of all time when you're a lifeguard. Because you know...watching the pool is kind of your job, so if you wander off to ask me some inane question then WHO IS WATCHING THE POOL? Argh)...yeah not bad. Until I ask her to squeegie the puddle. It is a 30 second job. All you have to do is take the nice squeegie and push the water towards the drain. It's not brain surgery. It takes her 5 minutes. I'm not just picking a long sounding number. It actually took 5 minutes. I counted. She just kept pushing the squeegie around erratically while crying "it's not working!". I have never in my life met a person who could not push water into a drain. It boggles the mind. The puddle wasn't even gone after 5 minutes. That's the point where I yelled "Okay that's fine! Stop it! Give me that!" Unbelievable.
So today Cashier Girl and I were off to Booster Juice for lunch. We have half an hour for lunch and a good ten of that is spent dodging the summer construction projects that completely surround the pool (and incedently my house). Finally we arrive. It goes like this:
Me: I'd like a tropical snack size smoothie and a chicken pesto paninni with no onions.
Booster Juice Girl: Which smoothie?
Me: Tropical. Snack size.
BJG: and what?
Me: a Paninni.
BJG: *Blinks*
Me: a chicken pesto paninni with no onions.
BJG: ooookaaaaay....*frowns in a cute manner and punches random buttons on the till...I hold out my debit card and she blinks at it and back at the till...and back at the card* That's 9.89.
Me: How is 7.49 with tax 9.89?
BJG: what?
Me: Your combo is 7.49.
BJG: Oh *frowns at till again* maybe our prices went up. (to much more compitent looking boy) Did our prices go up?
By this time the other guy has made my entire smoothy for me. And I haven't paid yet. The prices had not gone up...she just hadn't found the combo button.
Cashier Girl: Oh dear....I have american money.
yeah so then we finally paid. went next door to return a movie. Came back. Still no food.
BJG: I didn't know if you wanted spinach or tomatoes?
Aaaaargh.
Then I looked at the girl more closely.
It was girl who can't squeegie! Girl who can't squeegie has managed to get two jobs to be incompitent at! We were 5 minutes late from lunch and still had not eaten our food.
Then I got to tell a swimming instructor that her lessons were in fact so bad that I couldn't let her continue to teach them without doing volunteer hours under another teacher. Or she was fired. Only I said it muuuuch nicer and with a letter (for her file). And my new supervisor. I thought she might cry. I felt like a meanie. But her lessons really are terrible. Such is life.

Eureka 7

Hey look I drew something! Be sure to click it to see it properly. It is Holland and Talho from Eureka 7. My all time favourite anime couple...as of this week.
Not a lot to say about today...other than the fact that my body is not fooled by long weekends. If I don't work Monday, it's just as happy to be insomnic Monday night as Sunday. There is no reason...I even took the sleeping pills. No wait there is a reason. IT'S TOO HOT! argh. It rained today. For 11 mintues. Seriously, why even bother with an 11 minute storm. Who needs more than 4 hours of sleep a night anyway?

Weddingness
So...so much for my relaxing weekend. I spent over 8 hours yesterday doing weddingness. And now I shall share it with you.
First off, here's the programs I spent all day yesterday making:

So the wedding itself was in a United Church. They had two female reverands preform it. It was hilarious, they were so earnest but...they kept saying poetic phrases in these reverant but dreamy tones...such as "May your love not be a cage, but an ocean flowing back and forth between the shores of your two souls" Sit through an hour of that with a straight face, I dare you! I couldn't do it.

So that's me with the bride, at the receiving line. Then I got to say hi to all the bridal party whom I didn't know. They all said hi and were gushing over how much they liked the programs. And one said I looked just like Claire Danes. My friend was like "Man, I hate recieving lines, so awkward" and I said "oh really, I thought it was nice" Ahahahaha.

So the groom is blackfoot and they had a couple of Native American touches to the wedding. All the men in the bridal party wore eagel feathers attatched to the shoulders of their tuxes, which was quite cool. Then this guy played outside the church during the recieving line, then did a traditional dance with a bunch of hoops, very fun to watch.

And we got bubbles

The Bride and two of the flower girls

One decided that her nice shoes were over and done with after the ceremony. And that her dress was nice and swishy

The littlest flower girl...oh so cute...I took about 6 pictures of her when no one was looking...

The ring bearer had had enough of all these clothes...mom was trying to convince him to put them back on for the pictures. It was his 6th birthday.

So then we went to BP's for a while...it took then 45 minutes to bring us appetizers! grrrrr. One of my buddies likes girly drinks...

Quite a formal reception. Excellent food. Got stuck at a table full of people I didn't know with just my "date" for company. Whenever one of us had to leave to go somewhere the other was like "Hurry!" awkward.

They had a fountain of chocolate! I was way too full to eat by this point but I felt I should at least see the fountain. Smell it. Baske in it's chocolatey presence.
Ha! sorry for all the pics to you guys with dial up...I'll try to be more restrained next week.

New Friends
So last night I was reading in bed, as I do everynight, when I caught a glimpse of movement on the far side of the bed. I looked over to see two little furry black ears poke into my vision. For some reason this seemed quite normal to me...a moment later the ears we followed by a furry black face with a white muzzle.
Funny... I thought I don't remember owning a cat...
I sat up to say hi and the cat scampered off into the bathroom and out the window. I called Craig but he didn't get there in time to see it and probably thinks that I was hallucinating. This is not however the first time I've had furry visitors. I had a different cat visit me last year as well as a golden retreiver. That's right, I heard footsteps and walked out to find a golden retreiver sitting in my living room. Animals like my house...no matter what my landlady might think of them.
So I am off to a wedding today. Craigless, as A)he has to work and B)he's not so into going to the weddings of people he doesn't know to hang out with my work buddies. Someone asked me if Craig thought it was okay that I was going to a wedding with another guy. I laughed. Seriously, does wedding automatically equal date? cause that's just weird.
I spent 6 hours on those programs yesterday. But they are very cute. I should get into the wedding business. I can plan them, decorate them, create stationary and I make very nice jewlery...Oh and I've done wedding photography...perhaps this is my calling...
On the other hand, I've spent a couple saturdays at the salon this summer and it reminded me how strange and girly and stressy brides and bridesmaids are. Oh no, my tiara has one less pearl than I wanted...the wedding is ruined! It's really very strange, I don't know if I could deal with them on a full time basis. I like to think that I was a very calm easygoing bride. My mom might have snorted when she read that but really...compared to all the other brides I've known (haha, like you Babs) I was pretty mellow. The closer we got to the day, the less I cared about how many pearl were on my tiara (okay I didn't have a tiara but you get the idea). I think people forget that weddings are really just a big party to let all your loved ones celebrate your new life together. Why be stressy over it? That's my words of wisdom for today. Although I don't actually know if any single people read my blog. Enough rambling, I must get my stuff together.

Argh and Yay!
So first with the Aaargh.
I offered to make programs and gifttags for a friend of mine who is getting married on Sunday. We discussed this 3 weeks ago. She gave me the last of the information I needed last night at midnight! Not only is that cutting it a little close but my printer hates the pretty paper she gave me. It rejects it 2 out of 3 times. It took my 3 hours to design and print the 13 pages of gifttags last night. So about 2 hours of printing....I still have over 100 pages of programs to do (250...2 to a page...125 pages...at the rate I was going that's about 10 hours!) So I've been reading e-novellas while I print. I pretty much have to hand feed every single page. Man I thought this would be a super easy way I could help. Ha!
But yay because it is a long weekend! Although I did find out that I actually don't get paid for Monday as it's a civic holiday not a stat. Oh well, at least I get 3 days off. Even if I spend one entire day printing programs. I will spend 3 days in my pjs on the computer if all goes according to plan.
I have been drinking an average of a litre of orange juice a day. That's a lot. It's giving me heartburn. However I think I'm beating this sore throat thing.
and that's all.

Chai Creme Brulee

So wonderful, it's like chai mixed with butter. Now that might not sound good...but I want to eat it everyday...I don't care how fat I get.
Also I had some sort of prawn thing that was very pretty...so I took a picture:

And more useless pictures from Hanna:

This is me and Cashier Girl...very very hyper...no alcohol involved...just reaaaally hyper. (I'm in the brown top...if you don't know me)

When I'm hyper I curl my nose. I never know I'm doing it till I see the pictures. Why must I curl my nose? So it's Lance (I have no clever hidden name for him) me, Supervisor girl, and Cashier Girl.

Oh look! Floofy skirt day! The term floofy is really catching on at work.
Aaaand, because I was so pretty:

Why?
So we have a child sponsered with World Vision. He lives in Chile. Today I got a thing in the mail, it's this sticker thing you're sposed to send to your sponsered child. It's for back to school.
What is wrong with these people?
a) He is 18 months old. Not so much into school.
b) Chile is already halfway through the school year, they start in March.
Honestly, they have a whole lot of kids in the southern hemesphere. More than half the countries they work in I think. Why are they so dumb? Makes us look like intolerant North Americans who think everyone has the same holidays and seasons that we do (we also got a bookmark to send in spring...when it is fall in Chile). I'm so not sending that out. And I think I'm going to write World Vision and tell them what I think.
Anyway, I am all prettied up, going out for dinner with my work buddies as our Supervisor is leaving us. :( well at least I'm cute.
