My should hurts, my arm feels vaguely numb and I got a filling fixed today. All very exciting. Makes me want to take a nap actually. Well at least I got the tooth fixed, I'd lost half a filling somehow and it was making me crazy(er). I think the shoulder problem is from my desk being too high. I've dropped my tablet onto a box in the draw which I hooope is a better high. My wrist feels better anyway. Maybe I just slept funny, who knows really. I didn't get any unpacking or cleaning done today. Such is life. I did get a whole bunch of walls washed and holes puttied yesterday. Why oh why oh why are there so many holes in my walls? Geez, seriously on some of the walls I fixed over 20 little pin holes. Oh vell.
In other news, you can buy my garden necklace on Etsy (clicky click) now! Hooray! Go get something pretty and help a poor unemployed girl out. By the way, no news on the job front as my interview got moved to Tuesday. No Starbucks till Tuesday. Because driving 40 minutes each way just to get a Matcha Frappe is irresponsible. Or is it?

Is Bliss Like This?

For those of you who may not have noticed, my delightful cousin and good friend Barb has started a blog over at Is Bliss Like This?. It's sooo cute you say? Of course it is, I designed it! Mwahaha.
On a side note, if anyone wants a Blogger layout designed and is not related to me by blood or named Kait, here's what I charge.
Header banner - $15
Header banner and matching BG - $20
Installation and colour matching fonts - $10
So $30 tops. And I can make layouts that aren't girly I proooomise. But I do make an excellent girly layout :P.
So go give Barbie some love, she's a fun and amusing girl. Maybe don't call her Barbie though, not sure she likes it.
I love you Barbie Doll!

WIP's
So I am actually getting back in the swing of things art-wise, but I don't have anything finished to show you. So here's some Work's In Progress to prove that I'm not just sitting around reading. Those 200 hundred pages of the new Jaqueline Carey novel just read themselves.

In other news, I was feeling a bit homesick for Lethbridge yesterday. Okay, so I was feeling homesick for the westside Safeway. Strange? Seriously, I was almost teary over it. See we have a Safeway here...but it isn't big and airy and full of shinyness and Starbucksness. Nooo...it's more...smallish. Whiteish. Dingyish. And there is no kale or polenta! Seriously people.
They did however have fresh baby potatoes, so that helped. Maybe Extra Foods will have kale.
I think I am the only person on earth who cooks with it though.
However today we woke up, had a nice breakyfast and went off to Syringa Creek Provincial Park which is a mere 15 minutes drive from our house. We spent the morning hiking and saw three chipmunks, two squirrels, a lizard, a deer, eleven big horned sheep and a great horned owl. Also a variety of other birds but you'll have to ask Craig about that...wait wait...Junco's, Yellow Rumped Warblers...some sort of Flicker...and Chickadees. Ha! I win the memory prize!
The moral of the story is that homesickness is over, I can give up my shiny Safeway to be able to run amok in the woods. Also, I can get a Starbucks in Nelson on Thursday after my job interview. Or maybe before. Or maybe after and before.
Such is Hanna's Cool Life today. As a side note, you should see my spell checker today. It's pretty much just one big underline.

Save the World Sunday - Week 3
Recycled Toilet Paper. That's right, I'm going there.
And I'm recycling all my moving boxes, but that doesn't really count as I'd do that anyway...what else are you sposed to do with them all?

Say hello to Phet
So for todays adventure Craig and I went exploring the park along the river. The trail starts just a 5-10 minute walk from our place. We followed it down to Zuckagerg Island which is a little park with an old russian chapel on it. Very fun, I remember going down with my friends to eat lunch there when I was in Grade 9.

We passed by the high school I attended for one whole year on the way back and then went back to the house the downtown way. We circled about half of the main part of the town all together. No idea how long it took as we forgot to check the time on our way out the door. On our way we passed the pet store. According to Craig they had many interesting kinds of parrots. Also a lemer...I wasn't aware they were pets...also the people who ran the store seemed to be crazy people. I was a little afraid of them so I rescued a fish. He is a betta and his name is Phet. Because bettas are from Thailand and Phet is a thai name that means diamond. And is also fun to say.

Friday Five
1) Lehti Tray by Maria Jauhiainen

2)Spiralling Store, they have the absolute cutest things, very whimsical in a folksy wooden way.

3)Go Ahead and Pick a Light. This is pretty much the coolest thing I've ever seen. It's a floor lamp, and you can pick the little fruit bulbs off and they stay lite for an hour or so...then you put them back on the tree to recharge!

4)Tea Posy by Ochelly
The tea is a little bundle with flowers and it blooms in the pot when the water is poured in. Sooo pretty :)

5)Stashkit folding helmet. So it's a bike helmet that folds up...this is such a great idea, I hate hauling helmets around.

Greetings from Castlegar
Well we arrived. And survived. I'm so tired.
We got here about 9ish last night and pulled in the mattress and a couple big things off the back of the truck, then unloaded the rest this morning. I've had better mornings. Our bedroom window faces a busyish street and I'm not the world's soundest sleeper at the best of times. So I was up at about quarter to six. Anyway, we got a lot unpacked, my kitchen is almost completely set up. Also the living room is mostly together. Only it's not actually a living room. It's small and weird shaped and we've set both of our computers up in here with a loveseat to watch movies on Audrey's ginormous monitor, which is after all, two inches bigger than the TV. Which is upstairs in the war zone that passes for a spare room. I'm trying not to think about the spare room today. Anyway, Mom and Dad stayed the night to help us move and we all went to visit my Gramma for lunch for her birthday (she lives about 30-40ish minutes away). Then my parents went home from there and we came back and did some more unpacking and then went exploring.
We have a pretty good used bookstore and a small but nice new bookstore within a couple blocks of our house. Also, we went to the library (which is across the street :)). We were able to get cards right away, which surprised me. That's the fun of a smallish town I guess. Anyway, the library is terrific and I already got out Ironside by Holly Black and the third Stephanie Plum book (whatever it's called) by Janet Evokavich. So I'm happy on the book front. Anyway, I should stop with the tired rambling, I'm not even sure what I wrote....I'll try and wake myself up for the Friday Five tomorrow :P

Goodbye little house

Only two more sleeps until we go. Well, I should be having one of those sleeps at the moment, but I'm a little wired still...the packing...never ends.
Wonderfully, my mommy is down helping me. She went to the Women of Faith conference in Calgary last weekend, as did I (because I have sooo much time on my hands). The conference was pretty good. Not like...life changing but the speakers were all great and it was fun to spend one last weekend with the girls before I leave. Mom caught a ride back which is excellent as she is the Master Packer and Mover. We did a whole lot of moving when I was growing up, so she's had a lot of practice.
So it's all a bit strange, it's been hard saying goodbye to people... I thought leaving work would be easy but then the kids starting hugging me and then the moms started hugging me...luckily about 80 idiot little boys from the hockey camps came for my last hour which helped me be happy to get out of there. And then saying goodbye to friends is always tough, we're moving far enough away that we won't see any of them often if at all...I used to be good at leaving people but I've been here a long time and I've gotten out of the habit. :( This post is making me sad so I'm going to stop. One more day of packing and then away we go.
Onwards to new adventures and fun times!

Save the World Sunday - Week 2
So this week's green friendly change:
No more CD's. Well, no more buying CD's in stores. There's too much packaging and crap and while I do enjoy the cover designs, the amusement really only lasts for a couple minutes, and then it's more clutter in my house. Thus I will be buying my music online. Same goes for computer programs. Not so much with DVD's though, they're too big filewise to keep on the computer and too pretty all lined up on the self.
And yes I really did mean buy and not just download. I do partake in piratical activity from time to time, but most of the artist I enjoy still need to sell albums to eat and buy gas and whatnot. Plus, have you tried finding Henryck Goreki at a decent download speed. Not so easy. Itunes it is.
P.S. The packing? It is killing me.

Friday Five
I'm off to the ladies retreat! No more work for me! Ever!
Okay okay, no more work ever at this pool.
1)Window View Nest Box. In case you didn't know what to get Craig for Christmas this year.

2)Look! A hobbit house. But for real. Some guy in Wales built it as his family home :)

3)Ouch-The Voodoo Toothpick Holder! Hahaha, I want one.

4)Because I was telling Tanya about it...the Rollephant mobile. It makes me smile.

5)The Mix Tape USB Drive. So you can make mix tapes for your friends like back in the day...only with MP3's.

Hanasu.com redesign

So I've been too twitchy to do any art lately (you might have noticed). I'm sure I'll be fine once I'm settled in again. Anyway I decided to tackle my main website design. I never quite took my portfolio off it when I bought hanna-sandvig.com and it needed some help. I started about a month ago but finally finished(ish) it up tonight. So after using up all the remaining boxes in the house, I settled down enough to work on it. Check it out and tell me what you think!

Save the World Sundays
So I was very inspired by Green as a Thistle, she has committed to making one change in her life everyday for a year that betters the environment. Everyday is too much for me, and I'm not turning my fridge off, I'm just not. However I don't believe that that's any excuse for sitting about on my bum being too lazy to do anything, so I'm going to try for once a week. That's right, every week I'm going to try and make one permanent change in how I do things to make the world a better place. Mostly I mean so we don't all die of global warming and whatnot, but I also mean making it better for people, because seriously, we live here. So I'm going to try and make my (and Craig's :P) habits more green and more ethical. We'll see how it goes. I have two main reasons for this:
1)I want to prove that it's not a big deal to make smarter choices in life. I'm not a crazy hippie here. I'm an artsy computer addict who loves action movies and cute shoes. If I can do it, surely you can.
2)As a Christian I don't believe it's optional. We're were given the Earth by God back in the very first chapter of the entire Bible, and I don't think that was so we could burn it to the ground. We're supposed to be stewards, and we're doing a bang-up job so far.
Week 1 (well this isn't all one week, but it's where I started):
1)Switched to Method cleaning products.
2)Bought 10 reusable grocery bags, one is in my purse all the time.
3)We're actually turning the computer off when not in use.
4)No more Walmart! (but it's cheaper, you say? Buy less stuff I say.)
Week 2: Buying MP3's instead of CD's. (less packaging)
Week 3: Switched to recycled toilet paper.
Week 4: Using rags instead of paper towel.
Week 5: Water bottle in the toilet tank.
Week 6: Not shaving in the shower.

Lack of Focus
Here is why you shouldn't write report cards while talking to someone.
Date: August 10/07
Instructor: Annette and Mike
Comments:
Dear Emily,
Your front crawl has improved a lot.
You are becoming a lot more fun.
Ahahaha, Annette was going to rip it up but I put it on the staff bullitan board. Too funny.
Also there was a small child in the pool yesterday of about...threeish. Wearing only pink ruffly bathing suit bottoms. Boy or girl? Either way, it just wasn't right.

Man, I woke up when Craig did at 6 and I just can't get back to sleep. Maybe I'll take an 8:00 nap... Oh well, I think it's still close enough to Friday? I spent last night helping Marisa make moo cards for Pure Styles, as she is going freelance with the making people beautiful thing. I only get one more appointment with her and it makes my hair want to cry :(
1)Fractured Fairy Tales display wall, apparently they make the fronts mostly from things they found on the street and the boxes are mostly reused wood people donated. I think it's really cute!

2)Cute Sculptures made from kitchenwares!

3)Bubble Scrubber! Do the dishes aaaand blow bubbles.

4)Solar Powered Handbag. I guess you can charge your phone or ipod in it?

5)And some art for you. Foxfires does about the prettiest photomanips I've seen (and I've seen a lot :P)

Introducing Audrey
So Matthew and Candice have sold (and by sold I mean practically given away...I love you guys :)) me their computer. This is pretty exciting because it means that Craig and I can each have our own computer. This will save our marriage! Oh wait, maybe a bit dramatic but still, very exciting. Her name is Audrey, because she`s a classic beauty. Although maybe Olga would have been more appropriate, I mean have you ever even seen a 21 inch CRT monitor? It could eat my little 17 inchers for breakfast! And still have room to munch a couple LCD`s for a light snack.
I do however have two problems.
1)Ubuntu. That`s right, I don`t care about linux and I want it gone. If I reformat my hard drive can I make it go away? Windows XP is on there two but it makes me choose and if I don`t choose fast enough I get Ubuntu. I`m just not a big enough nerd to want that.
2)I don`t know how to make Audrey and Gunder (Craig`s computer) be friends and talk to each other. And Audrey needs to get to the internet somehow. Or frankly, she`s useless to me. Network? What? How? Help please?
And by help I mean Karl or Tom? Hmmm? I make good cookies!

Zoo Day!!
So Saturday was a major packing day, we got most of the office done, as well as all the books and movies in the living room. Self high five. Then yesterday we went to visit Kari out in Calgary. We somehow had the brilliant idea to go to the zoo. Because we love the zoo. Also because we are IDIOTS! Don't go to the zoo on a long weekend? Why did this not cross our minds? Why? Geez, we took the LRT because there was a lot of construction traffic. Turns out there was also construction on the train tracks, so we had to do shuttle buses and crap...took at least 20 minutes longer to get to the zoo. Then one we got off the train we found that the line up to get into the zoo was backed up way into the tunnel. We stood in line for over 1/2 an hour. Another 45 minutes to get food. Yeah we left the house around 1:00 and it was 3:15 before we started to look at things. Oh well, it was a nice day, and I always love the zoo anyway. And it was fun to hang out with Kari.
Here's a couple pretty flower picks from the garden for you (my camera is too angry to try and take pics of animals apparently, which is tragic as there was a baby Ibix, sooo cute!).

Also, the silly red pandas were of course hiding. Because they hate me. Even though I love them with an undying love. But it wasn't a complete loss as I finally found a red panda plushy to take home. His name is Shashi.

I am so smart.....S M R T
So if you've ever been hiking or camping or wandered around a beach with me, you'll know one thing about me. I love pretty rocks. I love them! I'm like a magpie, I wander around looking for pretty shiney things and then I have to take them home. Sometimes I have pockets full. I come by this honestly by the...my aunts and my gramma are the same way, my mom too to some extent. So I get home with my pockets-o-rocks and I carefully paint them with clear nailpolish so that they look pretty and wet all the day long. Some I put in my little zen garden. Some I line up on my bookshelves. But really, what good are they? Until today! I bought a bunch of those little super strong magnets at Michaels and hot glued some of my favourite little rocks and shells to them. I love them, it's like jewelery for my fridge!

Friday Five
What a Friday today was. See our evening shift supervisor got into a fight at the bar (he doesn't know what he did! Innocent he swears!) and well...his eye is a bright shade of reddy purple and swollen completely shut. I've never seen such a black eye. So I ended up taking 3 hours off in the middle of the day so I could come back and work the closing shift. Also one of my lifeguards is mildly autistic which makes for a long night. Neeeeed sleep.
On the plus side, this afternoon I dropped my ring off to be replated (poor naked finger) bought printer ink, dropped off my library books (they're so overdue that I'm not going back before I move), got two used books I wanted (score!), and supplies for two fun crafty projects (I got paint for your lanterns Am!).
Hmmm
Friday Five!
1)Giant Cupcake Pan! Now that's amusing.

2)Lilypad Studios, they make these beautiful handcrafted kids furniture.

3)by Vinta, this is a clock! It tells the time by the angle it's tipped at :P

4)Jorine makes adorable white ceramics with legs! These are the three mad hatters:

5)Kaat Tilley, beautiful Belgian fashion designer.

Amanda's Tummy

This is my friend Amanda, she is obviously very pregnant and asked me to henna her belly. Very amusing times.
So the first pic is the design drawn on with washable marker. She found the design online somewhere. The second pic is her belly all hennaed up. Took a while...an hour maybe? I don't remember. The third pic is a couple days later, with the hennaness in all it's glory.
According to my spell check hennaed is a word but hennaness is pushing it a bit too far. Go figure.
